Photo #1 Tree Bark Camera Settings: ISO 400, 46mm, f/8, Shutter Speed 1/160
Texture is one of my favorite concepts to capture during my photo shoots. I took this photo in January 2020 on a bright sunny day. I like the way I captured the black cracks between each piece of bark. It shows how many individual pieces make up mother nature. I also like the colors I captured, if you look closely there is that reddish brown color. I learned a lot from the assignment articles. Depth, contrast and patterns all determine how good your texture is. I think I should have tried for a closer view of the tree, to capture the tiny textures on the surface of each piece of bark. My photo is all different size pieces of bark which resembles a pattern. They all fit together on the tree like a puzzle. I wish the contrast was higher because the dark spots are a little too dark for me. Although a close up photo, it still represents the area we live in very well.
Photo #2 Flower Family Camera Settings: ISO 200, 55mm, F/5.6, 1/800 Shutter Priority
I took this photo on February 11, 2020. It was a bright beautiful day. I like this photo because all of the flowers are right next to each other like a family. The camera focuses in on the flowers instead of the background which I like too. The short depth of field keeps the viewers eyes on the flower. I used the rule of thirds which makes the photo more interesting and dynamic then if the flowers were centered. This kind of reminds me of how 2020 has been. The flowers are grouped together in a family away from everyone else. I also like the shadows on the flower pedals. I think the photo may have looked better had the background not been so dark. I took this photo as a Jpeg for the photography words defined. I learned that a Jpeg photo is not always as good as raw. I also like the white flower that brings contrast to the flower family.
Photo #3 Wild Berries Camera Settings: ISO 400, 18mm, F/3.5, 1/200
I took this photograph on a sunny day in the beginning of the school year. It was a sunny day with very few clouds in the sky. One of my favorite aspects of this photo is the shallow depth of field with the blurred background. It puts the viewers eye on the main subject which is the berries. The branch at the has very high contrast and is almost like a leading line down to the berries. The shadows on the lead also make the photo more interesting. This photo was from the beginning of the year, so I was a very untalented photographer back then. I wish I had gone for a different angle, rather than just straight. I should have snapped from a lower angle looking up at the subject. I also wish the resolution was a little bit higher. This was my first decent photo of the year, which really boosted my level of confidence, and gave me a sense of purpose in the class. I kept seeing amazing photographs by other students, but I was unable to do that myself. I was really proud of this photo during first semester.
Photo #4 Valley Learning Camera Settings: ISO 400, 18mm, F/3.5, 1/200
I took this photo on October 17, 2020. It was a really sunny day with no clouds in sight. This was one of my landscape photos. I feel it is one of my best because of the story behind it. I have grown up and gone to school in the San Lorenzo Valley since kindergarten. I have always loved being in the mountains with trees surrounding me. I like the way the tree line gives this photo a good background. The school is surrounded by green: grass, trees, plants. I like having the grass included, but too bad the shadow of the counseling office got in the way. If the grass had the sun on it then this photo would have had less contrast to it. I also wish I had waited until the sheriff and other two people were not in frame. The different color trees in the background also brings a little bit of contrast. I do have the edited version which I like a lot better. I believe my photo represents the beautiful town we live in. I should have tried a few more angles for this picture because this one is not the best. Maybe if I had gone more to the right but turned to the left more.
Photo #5 Chain-Links Camera Settings: ISO 100, 55mm, f/11, 1/320
I took this photo on 2/21/20, it was a sunny day. I was doing the color hunt assignment. I really like the shadow that the chain displays on the base of the fire hydrant. It is very simple but satisfying. The texture of the fire hydrant is displayed well in this photo. The cracking of the paint and bumps gives the photo some contrast, rather than the hydrant being smooth and freshly painted. I plan on becoming a firefighter and start a class next school year for it. Maybe this is why I find this photo more interesting. The shadow looks like you could pull the chain links off because the gaps look bigger. In a way this brings an illusion to the photo. I like the illusion because it makes the photo more interesting. I regret not shooting from a low angle facing upwards. I think that would have been a neat photo with the chain dangling right above the lens, and still having the shadow. I do not like the valve cover in the top right of the photo, it takes my eye away from the chain and shadow..
